Deb Crowe Schlosser Beats Cancer

Deep thoughts with Deb Crowe

Texas two-step

Just got back from Houston last Friday after spending quality time with part of my care-team at MD Anderson. Spent even better quality time with my family pictured above. Aren’t they cute? And Steve & I celebrated a dozen years married on 9/15. We went out to the movies (highly recommend the new Spinal Tap sequel) and bought him some new sneakers. Life is good.

Medical news…….. My lab reports aren’t exactly perfect but the doctor’s assessment is that I’m doing really well. The scans showed that my tumor has indeed shrunk and that the lymph nodes have also reduced in size & number. They had trouble finding some of them. There was a tiny BB sized bump that is in my skin (not attached to the tumor or lymphs) that needed to be biopsied – still waiting for results. And I finally got genetic testing started. Should have results in a couple of weeks on that.

The folks I met with said my ideal plan to have surgery in the back half of January is doable & approved, although nothing is scheduled yet. I should finish chemo at the end of November, will have December “off” to recover from chemo (& enjoy the holidays) and then have the first half of January to take care of my client’s end of year bookkeeping. Then back to Houston for probably 2 weeks to have surgery & recover. Another 4-6 week break, then radiation for 4-6 weeks back in Houston. I’m planning on being NED by May-June, if I can be so specific.

Back home & sitting in my office, ready to get back into my routine. Chemo is tomorrow. I’m moving in the direction of a more plant-based Mediterranean diet – no more cookies. I’m determined to be as healthy as possible by January so the rest of this hooplah gets more lah than hoop.

Shout out to Earth Wind & Fire for their epic September song. It’s been playing on repeat in my head & I hope it gives all y’all the pep-in-your-step that it gives me. Group hug – D
