Deb Crowe Schlosser Beats Cancer

Deep thoughts with Deb Crowe

Wednesday wonderings

Stuff that’s happening….

I’m back in Houston after spending the weekend at home with my man & my dog friend, Peanut. It’s absolutely amazing what just a very few days of home sweet home can do for your mental musings. Steve & I made some decisions together & I feel like I’m just now ready. Ready to deal with reality & ready to get this party started.

I just chopped my hair off (not completely – just a cute little shaggy pixie) as a personal symbol of acceptance for what’s to come. Tomorrow I get a full-body scan to see if the c-word is showing up elsewhere. Friday I meet with a surgeon. Next week I meet with the oncologist to review all the test results, etc. thus far & negotiate a healthcare plan that works for me. I say negotiate because I very much want to spend the potentially 5 months of chemo at home. The location for chemo on St. Thomas would be a mere 10-minute drive from the Schlosser sanctuary. And I’ve finally accepted the reality of a double mastectomy. The surgery for this would most likely be scheduled this fall back in Houston.

I also have a round of appointments for a 2nd opinion with MD Anderson here in Houston scheduled for early June. Will most likely be going home 5/25 & then back the week of 6/9, but not set in stone.

My little brother & my little sister are joining me for dinner tonight at Chez Nous. Feels great to be able to celebrate life with my siblings. This girl is going to chow down on some truly excellent grub with truly excellent folks!

And in the meantime, you, my awesome family & friends, keep showing up for me. I thank you & I love you. Even though I may not respond, please know that every single message touches my heart & makes me feel like the luckiest gal ever. I love my tribe.

First of all, you look AMAZING! Second, you are one of the strongest people I know and this shocking and unfortunate road block will eventually be in the distant rearview mirror. We hate we are can not assist and support locally, but know that we are here for you, Steve, and of course Peanut from afar. We love you! Virtual hugs from your Friday Lunch Buddy
